Color and design problems

by Sandra
(Altoona, PA)

My living room is long, with a vaulted ceiling above the front door. We're talking half the length of the house, and sort of narrow in comparison.

At the far end of the living room is a fireplace that takes up half the end wall. It's all brick, without a ledge or mantle and it's flat into the brickwork.

Currently the walls and sloped ceiling are white, the carpet (came with the house, in very good shape, and recently installed) is a burgundy/maroon shade.

There is a 12 foot window in the outside wall, all are surrounded by lite wood grained sills, surround, etc. My furniture is currently blue (it can be replaced) but I can't replace the carpet.

My decorating tastes? Anything, I don't have a distinct style. Any suggestions on a wall color?

I would like to keep drapes in mind too.

Thanks,

Sandra
