What Did We Ever Do Before We Got Direct TV?

We had cable, that's what! We're so much happier now with Direct TV. Why? Well, let's just tell you a little story...

When we moved from Texas to Ohio, we decided very early on that we would go with a satellite TV system over cable TV. There was only one reason, but it was an important one.

NFL Sunday Ticket!!!

Well...of the two major satellite providers, only one offers "The Ticket" and that's Direct TV. We got a great deal that put 3 receivers in our home with a DVR on one of them. Everything worked perfectly as soon as it was installed and we've enjoyed it ever since.

Let's talk about some of the things that make DirecTV(R) a superior choice.

Price

Direct TV is generally cheaper than cable for the same channels. For roughly the same amount of money you get 140+ digital channels of DirecTV (R) vs. 60-90 analog from cable.

With DirecTV (R), you own the equipment. Most of the time with cable, if you move, you turn in your boxes and remotes to the cable company and you get charged if you don't.

Every time we've had cable installed in a house or apartment, we've been charged some kind of installation fee. Sometimes, it's a good deal at $4.95, but more often than not it's $20 or more. With DirecTV (R), basic professional installation is free with your purchase.

If you're adding a DVR to watch programs on-demand, expect to pay more via cable. The fees are generally higher. With DirecTV (R) it's $5.95/month. Even TIVO (R) charged us $12.95/month and I had to buy the receiver. It was only single channel. Our DVR records 2 programs at once where TV only recorded 1.

The best part is getting our bill every month and seeing what we pay now vs. what we used to pay. How about being able to buy a pair of money tickets off the savings?

Digital Picture and Sound

In the world of cable, there are analog channels and there are digital channels. Basic packages how analog channels. If you'd like digital channels, that's an additional charge and sometimes a different receiver.

In the Direct TV world, all channels are 100% digital picture and sound. Even the broadcast networks! The picture is clearer, the sound is better.

The sound especially comes in handy for the 55 Pay-per-View offerings every day, along with the 30 premium movie channels.

XM Satellite Radio

On regular analog cable, there generally are no music channels, with digital cable, the usual offering is Music Choice. With Direct TV, you get XM Satellite Radio.

XM offers a variety of music channels in all your favorite genres. Classical, pop, rock and roll, oldies, country, jazz are all represented.

Having a party? Don't worry about the stereo, turn on Direct TV and put it on your favorite channel. There's even XM for Business that has more toned down offerings to be respectful of guests. That's what we do.

NFL Sunday Ticket

Well...here's the kicker. And the punter, the quarterback, the wide receiver and the defensive end.

ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL!!!

More than any other reason, Jen and I bought our Direct TV system because of NFL Sunday Ticket. Cable doesn't have it. Dish Network doesn't have it.

We don't live near our favorite NFL team so it's either go to a sports bar and run up a bill every week or try to follow the game on a small TV or enjoy the comfort of our home, watching our team drive towards the playoffs.

NFL Sunday Ticket is every NFL game, every Sunday of the regular season. If the game is on your local network affiliate, watch it there. If it's not, its on "The Ticket".

Check out the 'Red Zone' channel. When a team is driving inside the 20 yard line, you see that game live! You can also display the day's statistics on your screen during the game you're watching. This tool is especially useful for Fantasy Football team owners.
