Here's a color idea that we've adapted from something we saw on MSN.com...

We talk about neutral, earthy colors quite a bit. You know, those browns, oranges, reds, yellows and occasional dark greens that make your living room feel peaceful and inviting. This may go against what we've taught you but it is OK to throw a vibrant color into the mix every once-in-a-while.

A brighter red accent wall may be just what you need to get your guests talking. There are many blues that can be worked into the tans of your typical neutral living room without turning it on it's ear.

Fear not! Mixing it up is what makes living room decorating so much fun.

What's goin' on?

With spring here, we've been thinking a lot about what living room designs tend to work best with the change of seasons. Perhaps, with spring cleaning on our minds, we should be thinking about the clean lines of a contemporary living room.

If you're trying to simplify, nothing beats the symmetry, shape, and economy of a contemporary design. Don't get contemporary and modern confused. They're cousins, but they are definitely different.

Contemporary strives to be comfortable and casual while maintaining those sleek elements it's known for. Modern takes it out to the edge with minimalism, skinniness (just made a new word, call Merriam-Webster) and monochrome.

Each is appealing to it's own segment of the population, but we've just got to be casual and cozy in our living room so if we're going to lean anywhere, it's towards contemporary.

So where does spring come in? Here's just a few suggestions. A tray of pears or green apples aligned in perfect rows. A collection of vases in a straight line each with the same flower in them. A geometric collage of frames on the wall, each with one-fourth of the whole photograph in them. Let your imagination take over.

We couldn't be happier for the arrival of spring! We've been pretty busy the last month or so...seems like life just happens. But now, we're ready to tackle springtime living room decorating.

Clutter seems to be a big spring problem for everyone. Getting organized takes a little work, but just imagine how good you'll feel once you've taken control of your space.

Start with paper. Magazines, forms, junk mail...all that stuff. Now is a great time to start recycling. We signed up for our waste disposal company's recycling plan. For a small monthly fee, we get a separate can to hold all our paper, plastic and aluminum waste.
