We've known Nyle Kibbe since 2001 and, in that short time, he's made a remarkable impression on us. His spirit, his passion, and his faith are contagious. He's a natural leader who has enjoyed great success professionally and he's a wonderful friend who inspired us with his love for life.
He has a new passion...beating the debilitating disease known as sarcoidosis.
Our relationship with Nyle Kibbe began professionally, through Todd's and Nyle's day job, at a major auto insurance company. The company was going through a major growth phase and there seemed to be new faces in the office daily. Because Todd worked in the field he didn't often get a chance to meet, or spend time with, his newest colleagues.
One of these newbies stood out, though. He wasn't new to the company, having transferred in from Texas, but he was new to Kansas City. That didn't seem to slow him down one bit. He made fast friends and displayed his ability to rally the team around a singular cause, being the best group of claims people we possibly could.
Todd and Nyle became closer as Todd was promoted to a supervisory role and Nyle was transferred to his team. Nyle's positive attitude, his passion for serving the customer, and his desire to get things right the first time were evident from the beginning. Nyle was a star as an employee and, more importantly, as a human being.
When it came time to plan our wedding, we knew Nyle had to be a part of it and we invited him to be an usher in our wedding party. What a wonderful day, made so much more special by having our family and closest friends with us to celebrate.
Nyle's hard work, passion, and superior skills would earn him a promotion only a few months after he and Todd began working together. The promotion would take him away to Wichita, where he dove right into his new challenge.
A few months later, both Nyle and Todd were promoted again and headed for the Lone Star State. For Nyle, it was a triumphant return to his native Houston. For Todd and Jen, Big D was their new home. Both would suffer through trials and tribulations, one professional, the other physical.
Nyle Kibbe was back and determined to make a difference. His Kansas experience has changed his perspective and now it was time to bring that perspective back to Texas, where he could make a greater impact as a manager.
He excelled early and earned praise and additional responsibility. Unfortunately, Todd and Nyle fell out of touch although only four hours separated them. They reconnected when Todd made a phone call to Nyle after hearing he'd had a recent health problem, which started with a fall. Todd was not prepared for what he heard.
Nyle was optimistic and showed his usual sense of humor but he also stuttered greatly. He sounded weak, yet resilient. Still, Todd had faith in Nyle because Nyle had faith in Nyle.
Todd and Nyle would talk by phone a few more times and Nyle was better each time. He'd finally been able to return to work, but had left for another company soon after.
Years would pass as we would leave Texas for Ohio, then finally move back to Kansas. We would wonder how things were going for Nyle Kibbe and thanks to the phenomenon known as Facebook, we would soon reconnect and be able to stay connected.
Upon reconnecting, we started to learn the true scope of his condition. Our hearts sank as we realized how serious his predicament really was.
Now, we know what we must do for our friend. He needs our help. The only way Nyle has any hope up of living a normal life is if he has the financial resources to continue the fight.
Nyle Kibbe suffers from sarcoidosis, a serious disease that can attack any organ at any time. Granulomas, or abnormal masses of inflamed tissue, form in various organs of the body. In Nyle, sarcoidosis has attacked his liver, kidneys, spleen, skin and joints. To manage the symptoms, Nyle must take high doses of steroids which come with their own devastating side effects.
In Nyle's own words, "It's the treatment that's killing me more than the disease!"
The disease cannot be cured, only the symptoms managed. Unfortunately, Nyle's symptoms have been much worse than those most victims experience. Avascular necrosis, a complication of sarcoidosis has already claimed Nyle's hip and now it threatens his right shoulder. Nyle's shoulder is practically dead in it's socket.
Nyle needs a shoulder replacement desperately or he may lose all mobility in his right arm.
Nyle Kibbe's work ethic has always been beyond question. However, the symptoms of sarcoidosis, not to mention the excruciating pain, have left him disabled and unable to work. Nyle moved out of his apartment, sold his personal belongings, and used up most of his savings to pay for his treatments and medications. He's out of resources now. It's up to us to carry him through.
Please help us help our friend in his battle with sarcoidosis.
