tongue and groove wood, a challenge for sure
by: Todd and Jen

The painting of wood walls is definitely a polarizing issue. Many hate painted wood while others are surprised by how good it looks once done. The kind of tongue and groove this is plays into the discussion quite a bit. Lots of folks can't wait to paint over knotty pine because they think it's kind of ugly to begin with.

If you're certain you're going to paint, keep these things in mind.

1-Get the grooves clean. Use a stuff broom.
2-Prime it. That'll help the paint and protect the wood.
3-Use a sprayer. Too much work with rollers and brushes because of the grooves.
4-Creamy is good. Look at off-whites and light yellows that are rich and creamy. It'll look good on the wood.

If you're waffling and wavering on painting wood there is another way. Strip the stain, sand the walls down, bleach them, and go with a lighter stain. That sounds like fun, doesn't it?
